Some coconut farmers registered under the GKV-SNV Hortifresh Coconut Innovation Platform have received 100 high-quality coconut seedlings each to help them expand their farms, replace dead coconut seedlings and enhance their production of coconuts.

The farmers located at Fawomanye and Bronikrom in the Western region and Mankessim in the Central region of Ghana are those who have currently received their seedlings as plans are ongoing to reach all the other farmers under the platform.

The Coconut Seedlings Distribution is the second phase of the GKV-SNV Hortifresh Coconut Innovation Platform which seeks to equip coconut farmers in the Western and Central regions of Ghana with the needed modern techniques to boost their coconut production.

Speaking to the media during the distribution exercise at Mankessim, Mr. Robert Quaicoe, a Coconut Scientist explained the purpose of the innovation. “We want to equip the farmers with modern techniques that must be implemented in the coconut production process to ensure they harvest quality yield, supply good coconut regularly and aid develop Ghana’s coconut industry”

The activity was also an opportunity for the partners of the program to monitor how the farmers were implementing the modern coconut production techniques they were trained in during the innovation’s first phase and also provide solutions to challenges the farmers might be encountering.

The GKV-SNV Hortifresh Coconut Innovation Platform is currently aiding fifty (50) coconut farmers in both the Western and Central Regions of Ghana.
