Renowned Ghanaian playwright, author and motivational speaker Uncle Ebo Whyte, has revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on the theatre business.

In an interview with Citi tv, monitored by Myghanadaily, the artistic lead writer at Roverman Productions expressed that things did not just slow down for him but things were put to a halt. ‘We employ 120 people every quarter but due to the pandemic, no productions were done.’

According to him in December, “The Festival Show” was slashed by 50%, resulting in huge losses.

He further explained that people who bought tickets to attend the play observed the necessary protocols that were put in place such that people were not put together except they were a family.

    Priority is keeping patrons safe

He further added that the lives of each and every one of their audience is precious, saying, “In as much as we would like to host plays, we first have to engage and stay safe because any life lost will be one life too many lost, hence the need to keep lives of patrons safe”.

‘Our stake in ensuring the safety and health of patrons is on the highest level, we don’t compromise on that.’

He finally reiterated that what they did as individuals enhances the welfare of the nation, resulting in the safety and well-being of Ghanaians, therefore it was necessary that we all keep safe and observe the necessary protocols to help eradicate the pandemic entirely.
