The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has expressed appreciation to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) recogniising the Volta and Oti Regions for their consistent support towards media development in the two regions.
A citation was presented the ECG Volta and Oti regions during the World Press Freedom Day celebration, held on Saturday, May 3, at the Volta Regional Press Centre in Ho. The day was marked by renewed calls for ethical journalism and stronger collaboration between media and stakeholders across sectors.
Receiving the citation on behalf of ECG, Madam Eunice Tweneboa-Kodua, Regional Public Relations Officer, thanked the GJA for the prestigious acknowledgment. “We at ECG are deeply honoured by this gesture. We extend heartfelt gratitude to the leadership and members of GJA Volta and Oti for this recognition,” she stated.
She emphasised the critical role journalists play in promoting transparency, accountability, and public awareness, adding that ECG considers the media a vital partner in national development. “The advancement of journalism is essential for the health of any democracy. We recognize and deeply value the tireless efforts of journalists in informing the public and holding institutions accountable,” she said.
Touching on the evolving role of journalism in the age of artificial intelligence, Madam Tweneboa-Kodua encouraged media practitioners to rise to the ethical demands of the profession and protect its integrity.
“As AI continues to influence how news is produced and consumed, it is more important than ever for journalists to uphold the ethics of the profession. Guard your credibility and adhere strictly to the noble values that define journalism,” she urged.
She reaffirmed ECG’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance media development, saying the company will continue to build partnerships that empower journalists and strengthen communication in the region. “We are proud to walk this path with the GJA and other stakeholders. Together, we can foster a vibrant and responsible media landscape in the Volta and Oti Regions,” she added.
The celebration also recognized several partner institutions and individuals, including former GJA Volta/Oti Chairman Mr. Kafui Kanyi, Mr Gershon Adeklo, CEO of LOGO Motors for their continued support and dedication to media growth in the region.
