Ghana’s U-20 national team, the Black Satellites, recorded their first victory at the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after edging defending champions Senegal 1-0.

Emmanuel Mensah scored the only goal for Ghana as they are now in second position in Group C with four points and are on course for a place in the quarterfinals.
DR Congo tops the group with four points after defeating Central African Republic 3-1 in the other group encounter.

Ghana coach Desmond Offei, after the opening draw against DR Congo, made a few changes to his starting lineup, giving starting roles to highly experienced Jerry Afriyie.
It was a lively first-half encounter, with Ghana making the early incursions, and they deservedly went ahead in the 15th minute through Mensah.

Senegal responded with urgency, creating several chances, but the Ghana defence stood resolute as they kept their calm at the back to deny their opponent.
Ghana goalkeeper Gidios Aseako was crucial for Ghana in keeping a clean sheet at half time, having made numerous impressive saves.

The defending champions Senegal started the second half on a more purposeful note as they attacked more in search of the equaliser.
The Senegalese were getting close to an equaliser midway through the second half but failed to convert most of the chances as well as saves from Ghanaian goalkeeper Aseako.

The Black Satellites of Ghana had several opportunities to double their lead during some counterattacks, but they were not effective in the final third.
However, Ghana held on to their lead to secure all three points, as they are in pole position for a place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
