Government will disburse GH¢150.16 million to 350,580 households under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme,  effective August 4, 2025.

Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, announced this at a press briefing in Accra, stating that the payment covers the 97th cycle for May and June 2025.

LEAP is a bi-monthly cash transfer programme introduced in 2008 to support extremely poor and vulnerable households, including orphans, the elderly (65+), persons with severe disabilities, and impoverished pregnant or lactating mothers.

Dr Lartey said the Ministry began indexing LEAP grants against inflation during the 96th cycle in June 2025, resulting in a 25 per cent increase.

However, the top-up was not paid then and has been included in the current cycle.

    “One-member household will receive GH¢384.00, two-member household GH¢456.00, three-member household GH¢528.00, and four-member household GH¢636.00,” she stated.

“With each payment cycle, we reaffirm our resolve that no Ghanaian is left behind—particularly those most in need. The 97th LEAP payment cycle, like all those before it, is not just about distribution of cash.

“It is a symbol of our commitment to restoring dignity, protecting livelihoods, and offering hope to the poorest and most vulnerable in our society,” she said.

Dr Lartey noted that beneficiaries have reported improvements in nutrition, healthcare access, school attendance, and household resilience.

The Ministry, in collaboration with the Ghana National Household Registry, continues to update beneficiary data to improve targeting and inclusion.

Dr Lartey emphasised that LEAP is increasingly integrated with complementary services such as NHIS enrolment, education, and livelihood support to promote sustainable poverty reduction and human capital development.

She assured beneficiaries of timely and uninterrupted payments and said the Ministry is reviewing payment systems to explore secure and convenient digital channels.

Dr Lartey commended development partners, MMDAs, CSOs, and the LEAP Management Secretariat for their continued support and urged stakeholders to ensure transparency, resolve grievances swiftly, and monitor outcomes effectively.

Beneficiaries are expected to comply with programme co-responsibilities. Grievances may be reported via 0303969399 or toll-free numbers 0800800800 and 0800900900.
