The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has released 25,000 bags of fertiliser for immediate distribution to 413 schools participating in the Feed Ghana Programme.

The initiative is to support minor season crop production, a statement issued by the Ministry in Accra, said on Tuesday.

It forms part of efforts to sustain agricultural productivity and enhance the contribution of school farms, particularly at the primary, junior high and senior high school levels, to national food and nutrition security.

The Ministry said the Deputy Feed Ghana Coordinator in charge of Institutional Farming, Mr Gordon Nana Asubonteng, had been directed to ensure the prompt distribution of the fertiliser to enable timely application and maximise yields.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to providing agricultural inputs and technical support under the Feed Ghana Programme, describing it as a key component of the government’s Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda.

The Feed Ghana Programme aims to boost domestic food production through increased access to inputs, mechanisation and institutional farming.

It also encourages schools, security agencies and other public institutions to operate farms to promote food self-sufficiency and reduce the country’s import dependency.
