The Greater Accra Regional Hospital, often known as Ridge Hospital, has responded harshly to a social media video that went viral and depicted an altercation between its emergency ward employees and a party that included a well-known social media activist.

Hospital administration called in the Ghana Police Service to restore order after the reported delays in treating a severely injured patient turned into verbal abuse and an attack.

The hospital admitted the incident happened as physicians were handling several emergencies in a formal statement signed by Head of Public Relations Juliana Hariwa.

According to reports, friends and family of the accident victims “invaded the emergency triage,” causing delays that led to a temporary suspension of services.

“Their overwhelming presence disrupted the smooth delivery of care, caused unnecessary tension, and even threatened the safety of our clinicians,” the statement read. It further condemned the assault on staff as “unacceptable,” emphasising that such actions “put lives at risk.”

According to reports, friends and family of the accident victims “invaded the emergency triage,” causing delays that led to a temporary suspension of services.

Citing privacy violations, the hospital reaffirmed its dedication to provide “quality and timely healthcare” but asked the public to abstain from filming in clinical settings without permission.

The statement urged “cooperation and mutual respect” to guarantee a safe environment for patients and medical staff, even if it did not specifically address the activist’s claims of carelessness.

The event has spurred discussion in Ghana’s overworked public health system about staff safety against patient rights. Ridge Hospital handles among the highest emergency cases nationally, with its triage system prioritising life-threatening conditions
