4th August Statutory Public Holiday

The general public is hereby notified that Wednesday, August 4th, has been declared a public holiday to commemorate Founder’s Day.

The Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery, stated in a press release that the day is a statutory public holiday, and that the general public should observe it as such throughout the country.

The big six in no particular order (Edward Akufo-Addo, Ebenezer Ako-Adjei, J. B. Danquah, Kwame Nkrumah, Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey, and William Ofori Atta)

Formerly celebrated on September 1 each year, the Founders Day was was moved to August 4 during President Akufo-Addo’s maiden term in office.

Founders’ Day is a national public holiday observed to commemorate the contributions of all people, particularly the “Big Six” who led Ghana’s independence struggle.
