Ban on religious activities lifted as borders remain closed

In his tenth address to the country since the coronavirus pandemic hit Ghana, His Excellency, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has lifted the ban off religious activities be it churches and mosques activities that will take effect from Friday, 5th June, 2020.

He explained this action is the stage one of the process of easing the restrictions put on the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He further instructed churches and mosques to congregate with a maximum number of 100 people at a time while ensuring a mandatory one metre rule of social distancing between congregants.

He added that in addition to the mandatory wearing of masks, a register of names and contact details of all worshipers and hand washing facilities and sanitizers must be provided with a maximum duration of one (1) hour for each service.

With effect from Friday, 5th June, we will begin stage one of the process of easing restrictions. An abridged format for religious services can commence. Twenty-five percent attendance with a maximum number of congregants can worship at a time in church or mosque with the mandatory one-meter rule of social distancing between congregants,” he noted.

However he added that the country’s borders remain closed until further notice for human traffic.
