Chempe a mobile order and pay solution has won the Pitchfest at the just-ended 3i Africa summit in Accra, Ghana.

The Summit brought together key players in the financial, investment, policy-regulatory, and digital technology domains to discuss Fintech and digital economic growth in Africa.

The pitch, an innovative challenge, gave entrepreneurs a chance to pitch their trailblazing ideas for a $10,000 cash prize. It took place on May 15, 2024, during the summit and saw the participation of 10 contestants, with Wendy Quarshie, the CEO of Chempe emerging as the ultimate winner.

Wendy’s led innovation allows restaurant patrons to browse through a digital menu, place their orders directly to the kitchen, pay for their meals and even split their bills without downloading an app helping to reduce wait times in restaurants.
The solution facilitates sales transactions by providing a user-friendly interface for processing payments, generating receipts, and managing customer information. It also supports multiple payment methods, including, credit/debit cards and mobile money payments. Additionally, the platform allows online ordering, enabling customers to place orders for food from their favorite restaurants straight to their homes. Wendy’s innovation stood tall among her competitors.

Speaking with myghanadaily, Wendy explained what led to the birth of Chempe. “As a frequent diner, I was always frustrated by the long wait times in restaurants and how chaotic it usually gets when we go out in a group and try to split bills.”

She went on to say, “When I got the opportunity to manage my dad’s restaurant for a period, I began to understand things from the business’ perspective. That’s where the idea of Chempe was born.” According to her, her innovation helps restaurants to be more efficient and also helps improve the satisfaction of their customers.

On 13th April 2024, organizers of 3i African summit called on entrepreneurs and innovators to submit entries for the Pitchfest competition. The pitch was an opportunity for these innovators to shine at the summit with a $10,000 cash prize, and to network with other innovators and investors.

The 3i African summit was organized by the Bank of Ghana and Development Bank Ghana. According to BOG, Ghana has seen rapid change in its digital growth with fintech becoming the Center of the payment ecosystem. The summit provided a platform for all the key players in Fintech to discuss and collaborate on means to develop the full potential of Fintech in Africa. The event took place from 13th to 15th May 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre in Ghana.

“I’m grateful to Bank of Ghana, DBG and the elevandi group for the opportunity to share what we’re doing here at Chempe. This recognition underscores our commitment to transforming the dining experience in Africa”, Wendy said.

She added that “Winning this competition highlights the innovative work of our team and the potential impact of our solutions on the restaurant industry. We are excited about the future and grateful for the support and recognition from such esteemed organizations”.
