On Wednesday, February 25, the Gbese District Court in Accra remanded Frederick Kumi, widely known as Abu Trica, into police custody after his re-arrest by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).

The court has set the next hearing for March 18, 2026, as proceedings for his extradition to the United States continue.

Abu Trica’s re-arrest comes soon after he and his co-accused were previously discharged by the same court regarding a U.S. indictment over an alleged $8 million romance scam targeting elderly Americans. The alleged scheme, which drew international attention, involved fraudulent online activities orchestrated by Abu Trica and others.

Details regarding the specific reasons for the re-arrest were not disclosed, and Abu Trica will remain in custody until the next court session.
