The Commonwealth Sport -Ghana, applauds Ghanaians for welcoming the King’s Baton and for successfully hosting a memorable relay in the country.
The relay, a symbolic and unifying event leading up to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, showcased the nation’s passion for sport and its spirit of togetherness.
In a statement issued by the Communication Committee of the GOC, the Commonwealth Sport Ghana commended Mr Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff of the Republic Ghana, whose direct involvement and unwavering support were instrumental in ensuring the smooth and impactful execution of the relay which began at the Flagstaff House.
They also thanked the Minister for Sports and Recreation, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, the Chief Justice, the heads of the various state security agencies and all baton bearers who carried the baton with pride, embodying the Commonwealth values of friendship, humanity, equality and destiny.
The statement also expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, corporate sponsors, and media partners who lent their resources, expertise, and voice to the event.
“From the security agencies who kept our baton bearers safe, to the local government authorities and the MP’s who welcomed the relay into their towns, and the media who brought the excitement into every Ghanaian home—your contribution was invaluable.
“To the operational team, supporters and cheer leaders , thank you for your infectious energy and dedication. This will fuel our preparations for the upcoming Games,” Mr Richard Akpokavie, President of the GOC noted.
The GOC views the successful completion of the King’s Baton Relay as a powerful launchpad for Team Ghana’s journey to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The enthusiasm generated by the relay serves as a vital boost of morale and national unity behind the athletes.
