President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the newly inaugurated PET scan centre in Accra will be included under the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares, to enhance cancer treatment support in the country.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan facility at the Swedish Ghana Medical Centre on Wednesday, May 13, the President explained that the centre would operate as one of the approved oncology facilities under the fund.

He noted that cancer patients receiving treatment at the facility would qualify for assistance through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, reducing the financial pressure linked to cancer care.

President Mahama described the establishment of the PET scan centre as a major advancement in Ghana’s healthcare system, saying it would boost early detection, diagnosis, and monitoring of cancer and other serious medical conditions while improving access to specialised healthcare services.
