Although Republic Day falls on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama has, through an Executive Instrument (E.I.) and in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (Act 601), as amended, designated Friday, July 3, 2026, as the official day for its observance.
In a statement issued on June 24, 2026, and signed by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the public was advised to take note of the change and observe the holiday accordingly.
The statement explained that since July 1 falls on a Wednesday, the President exercised his authority under the law to shift the public observance to Friday, July 3.
“As a result, Friday, 3rd July 2026, has been declared a public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement noted.
