Metso, a global leader in sustainable mining technologies, reaffirmed its commitment to responsible mining and talent development in West Africa with a formal partnership at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani.
On February 25, 2026, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UENR to enhance technical capacity, research collaboration, and practical training for engineering and mining students.
Dr. Enoch Kusi‑Yeboah, Vice President – West Africa, emphasized the importance of bridging academia and industry, noting similar initiatives with UMaT in Tarkwa. He highlighted the need for local capacity development to match growing resource nationalism across the subregion.
The MoU will provide students with hands-on training, internships, technical seminars, and exposure to advanced mineral processing technologies.
UENR’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, expressed gratitude, aligning the partnership with his vision of building a university that actively collaborates with industry to drive national development. Students welcomed the initiative, seeing it as a pathway to real-world experience, mentorship, and empowerment.
The event concluded with a tour of UENR’s engineering labs and discussions on next steps to activate the partnership, marking a milestone for Ghana’s mining and energy sectors.
