A teacher at Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School has been arrested following the circulation of a viral video that allegedly shows him physically assaulting a female student on campus.

The arrest was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

“The Nyinahini Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student arrested! Regional education directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ,” Mr. Fenyi stated.

The incident has generated widespread public concern after the video, which has been widely shared on social media, appeared to show the teacher confronting the student during an altercation on school grounds.

According to eyewitness accounts captured in the footage, several bystanders pleaded with the teacher to stop and reminded him that the individual involved was a female student.

The video reportedly shows the teacher physically attacking the student and forcefully throwing her to the ground during the confrontation.

When urged to exercise restraint, the teacher was heard asking, “Is she aware she is a lady?” while appearing visibly agitated.

The circumstances that triggered the incident have not yet been disclosed by school authorities or the Ghana Education Service.

GES has indicated that the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has launched an investigation into the matter and will submit a comprehensive report to the Service’s headquarters for further action.

The arrest has intensified calls from the public for accountability and reinforced concerns about student safety and the conduct of educators within educational institutions.

Authorities say the outcome of the ongoing investigations will determine any disciplinary measures or legal actions that may follow.
