    Offinso accident: GFA ExCo donates GH¢ 59,000 to victims as death toll rises

    The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has donated their monthly allowance for the month of September 2020 to the victims of the Offinso accident.

    The GFA in a statement on Monday said the members of the Council which comprises the GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and his Vice President Mark Addo collectively decided to support the victims.

    Other members of the Council are Randy Abbey  – Division One League representative, Samuel Anim Addo – Division One League representative, Toni Aubynn – Premier League representative, George Amoakoh – Premier League representative, Kingsley Osei Bonsu – Premier League representative, Frederick Acheampong – Premier League representative, Nana Sarfo Oduro – Premier League representative, Linford Asamoah Boadu – Regional FAs Representative (Eastern Chairman), Salifu Zida -Regional FAs Representative (Upper East Chairman) and Habiba Atta Forson – Women’s Representative.

    Monthly allowance

    Per the recently approved emoluments for the leadership of the GFA, the donation to the accident victims GH¢ 59,000.

    The GFA President Okraku earns a monthly salary of GH¢12,000, the GFA Vice President Mark Addo earns ¢7,000 and the remaining 10 ExCo members earn GH¢4,000 each.

    Gesture

    The gesture follows an accident on Saturday, involving about 34 young footballers of Africa Vision Soccer Academy which claimed the lives of seven footballers after the minibus they were travelling on plunged into the Ofinso river.

    The GFA statement said six of the young footballers died on the spot while one who was in a critical condition died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi on Sunday.

    Ten of the victims were treated at the St. Patrick’s Hospital and have been discharged.

    The GFA on Sunday, September 20, 2020, sent a delegation led by Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong and Ashanti Regional Football Association Chairman, Osei Tutu Agyemang to Offinso to commiserate with families of the victims and to visit the injured players.
