An eight-year-old girl has died after becoming trapped in a severe fire that tore through the Dansoman Market during the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident was first reported at 12:02 a.m., and firefighters from the Dansoman Station arrived just two minutes later. By the time they reached the scene, the blaze had already intensified and was spreading quickly.

To bring the situation under control, eight fire engines from Industrial Area, Ministries, National Headquarters, Madina, Weija, Anyaa, and Accra City were deployed, along with two private water tankers provided by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

Fire crews managed to contain the flames by 1:51 a.m., brought the situation under control at 3:03 a.m., and fully extinguished the fire by 5:21 a.m. after extensive overhauling to eliminate hidden hotspots.

Sadly, the young girl was found in one of the affected areas and could not be rescued. Her severely burned body has been handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigations.

Several wooden structures and shops, along with their goods, were destroyed in the blaze. However, firefighters succeeded in preventing the fire from spreading to nearby buildings, averting further loss.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and the GNFS has urged the public to stay vigilant and observe safety measures in market environments to help prevent such tragedies.
