The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, has formally stepped down from his position at Ghana’s High Commission in Nigeria following his election to Parliament.

He resigned from the diplomatic post to contest the Ayawaso East seat after the passing of the late MP, Mahama Naser Toure, who died after a brief illness. Mr. Jamal subsequently won the election and was sworn in as the constituency’s representative.

In a statement issued on March 17, 2026, he confirmed that he has officially completed the handover of his duties to the Deputy Head of Mission at the High Commission.

He expressed gratitude to John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve, while also appreciating the support of his colleagues and well-wishers.

Mr. Jamal also conveyed optimism about his transition into Parliament and thanked his supporters as he begins his new role representing the people of Ayawaso East.
