The Ghana Education Service has instructed students to stay away from the Accra Newtown Experimental D/A School following the collapse of part of the school structure, which claimed three lives and left 20 others seriously injured.

Speaking to Citi News on Monday, March 30, 2026, after meeting with security officials at the scene, the Director-General of GES, Ernest Kofi Davis, announced that an emergency meeting will be held to decide the way forward.

He explained that students will not be allowed to return until a thorough safety assessment confirms that the remaining structures are secure.

According to Prof. Davis, GES will collaborate with regional and national teams, including the estates department, to evaluate the integrity of the school buildings and determine whether they are safe for use. If any risks are identified, access to such areas will be restricted.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the condition of school infrastructure in the region, prompting urgent inspections to prevent similar occurrences.
