The Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, led by Minister Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two prominent Turkish infrastructure companies to design a large water treatment plant serving the eastern communities of Accra.
The agreement involves collaboration with Kocak Çevre, an engineering and construction firm experienced in water supply systems, and Hacıoğlu Holding A.Ş, a comprehensive infrastructure company specializing in large-scale water, energy, and logistics projects.
The joint effort will focus on preliminary and detailed engineering designs for a proposed water treatment facility with a production capacity of around 300,000 cubic metres per day. The plant aims to significantly improve potable water supply to fast-growing communities in the eastern corridor of Accra.
Minister Adjei emphasized that the partnership is a crucial step toward meeting rising water demand driven by urbanisation and population growth in the Greater Accra Region. The project is expected to enhance water reliability, expand service coverage, and strengthen long-term water security in the capital’s eastern zones.
This MoU initiates the technical planning phase, setting the stage for full project development and eventual construction of the large-scale treatment facility.
