Cabinet is set to hold a special meeting today, Thursday, May 14, to examine recommendations presented by the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) as government moves closer to deciding on proposed amendments to Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

The meeting is expected to be chaired by President John Dramani Mahama.

Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu revealed that a draft position paper has already been prepared after extensive consultations and legal analysis involving the Attorney-General and the President’s legal team.

Speaking on Joy News, Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained that President Mahama had earlier instructed that the Constitutional Review Committee’s report be carefully examined to guide government’s official response to the proposed reforms.

According to him, that review process has now been completed, clearing the way for Cabinet discussions.

He stated that the special Cabinet session would allow ministers to deliberate on the draft position paper and determine government’s final stance on the recommendations emerging from the constitutional review exercise.
