President John Dramani Mahama has toured ongoing construction works on a new cardiology centre at the Tamale Teaching Hospital as part of his Resetting Ghana Tour in the Northern Region.

The facility, being developed under the MahamaCares initiative, is expected to strengthen specialised healthcare delivery, particularly in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cardiovascular diseases.

Once completed, the centre will help address a major gap in Ghana’s healthcare system by reducing the need for patients—especially those in the northern regions—to travel long distances to access advanced cardiac care in cities like Accra or abroad.

During the visit, President Mahama engaged with engineers and health officials overseeing the project and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work. He reaffirmed that investing in healthcare infrastructure remains a key priority under his administration.

He noted that improving access to modern, well-equipped medical facilities is essential for enhancing healthcare quality nationwide, adding that strengthening tertiary institutions such as Tamale Teaching Hospital is crucial in tackling the growing burden of non-communicable diseases, including heart conditions.

The President reiterated his commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare services across all regions of the country.
