Former traditional priestess turned evangelist, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court for her role in a high-profile fraud scheme.

The court found Nana Agradaa guilty on several counts of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence, following a well-publicized case that has captivated the nation. The charges were rooted in a televised broadcast in 2022, in which she claimed to possess spiritual powers capable of doubling money, a promise that drew thousands to her church, the Heaven Way Champion International Ministry at Weija, Accra.

Court records reveal that Nana Agradaa, through her Today-TV channel and social media platforms, invited viewers to attend an all-night service at her church, assuring participants that any money donated would be miraculously multiplied. Many travelled from across Ghana, offering significant sums in hopes of financial transformation. These promises, however, were never fulfilled.

According to the prosecution, more than a thousand people responded to her call, with six named complainants directly involved in the case. Investigators confirmed that Agradaa orchestrated the scheme with accomplices, systematically deceiving vulnerable congregants under the guise of religious ritual.

“The accused successfully demanded and received huge sums of money from some members of the public who attended the said all-night service at Heaven Way Champion International Ministry, Weija, including complainants in this matter, as indicated on the face of the charge sheet,” prosecutors stated.

The court described Nana Agradaa’s conduct as a coordinated and deliberate attempt to defraud the public, noting the significant harm inflicted on individuals seeking spiritual or financial relief.

Before sentencing, the court ordered a mandatory pregnancy test, as is standard under Ghanaian judicial procedure for female convicts. The negative result enabled the court to proceed with her sentencing.
