The National House of Chiefs have called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to make peaceful conduct of this year’s general elections it’s primary purpose.
In their press release, the chiefs expressed their concern about the growing tension in the country at a time were we are confronted with challenges such as Coronavirus, CSM epidemic, flooding, joblessness and among many others.
They further expressed that the decision of the EC to compile a new voter’s register is escalating the decison and called on them to ensure that no qualified Ghanaian is disenfranchised and that the elections is free and fair.
“As chiefs we have the responsibility, and the duty, to speak objectively on national issues and in defense of the national interest. So at this crucial time we owe a sacred duty to our people to remind all of us about the “pledge to be faithful and loyal to Ghana, my motherland.” That is why we are asking all Ghanaians to surbodinate individual interest and political party loyalty to the national desire for peace, unity and development. ”
