The Ghana Police Service has arrested a woman in connection with the alleged theft of a newborn at the Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra. The baby has since been safely recovered.

According to police sources, the suspect was reportedly dressed in a nurse’s uniform and was captured on the facility’s CCTV cameras carrying the baby out of the premises with what appeared to be a sack. The footage has circulated widely on social media.

The incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, shortly after the child’s mother delivered via cesarean section. The baby was allegedly taken from the facility, triggering panic among hospital staff and patients.

Police have confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations. Authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding the suspect’s identity or possible motives.

The safe recovery of the newborn has brought relief to the family and members of the community, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
