The Reverend Alfred Nyamekye, Senior Pastor of the House of Faith Ministries in Kumasi, has recommended post marital counselling to help sustain Christian marriages.

He said premarital counselling was always done in a rush thus impeding the understanding of the tenets of marriage by most couples, leading to a high divorce rate. Rev Nyamekye was speaking at the launch of the 25th Anniversary of the Fruitful Ministries International Incorporated, Northern Zone, in Kumasi.

The group is a non-denominational organisation, founded by Reverend Dr Samuel Kisseadoo, with a vision to ensure the success of marriages whilst building good family relationships for a formidable church. “Right after marriage, the true character of couples emerge as they pretend to be what they are not before the marriage,” Rev. Nyamekye said.

“To resolve this, couples must surrender their lives to Christ Jesus as their Lord and Master.” That, he said, would bring a renewed mindset on the real meaning of marriage and family life because God is the origin of those institutions.

The Senior Minister had, therefore, advocated a monthly post marital counselling for every Christian couple. Apart from that couples could take advantage of organisations such as the Fruitful Ministries to help them with their marriage challenges.

He said marriage experts had described the first seven years of every marriage as the adjustment period. “Sometimes people have been married for 50 years but would want to call it a quit and tracing it back would reveal that it collapsed within that first seven years of the marriage,” he said.

Professor Joseph Lamptey, Patron for the Ministry, giving the history, said it was launched in 2001 with branches across Ghana and influenced many individuals.

Reverend Christian Danso, Country Director, Fruitful Ministries International Incorporated, said the anniversary, which had its Southern Zone launched in February, would be climaxed in August, 2025. Activities lined up included national delegates’ conference, health screening/street evangelism, and donation to the orphanage.

Some beneficiaries, whose lives had been transformed by the Ministry, including Dr Salma Sando and Evangelist Mrs Patience Wilberforce, testified to that effect.
