    8 dead in helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofrom

    On Wednesday, August 6, a military helicopter went down at Adansi Akrofum in the Ashanti Region, killing everyone on board.

    Eyewitnesses say the helicopter has burned beyond recognition.

    The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) said in a statement that on board were three crew and five passengers,

    Those who were on board  were; Hon. Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment and Science, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the ruling NDC, Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

    The mortal remains of the eight persons who tragically died in the helicopter crash that occurred  arrived in Accra and were received at the Burma Camp in Accra for onward transport to the mortuary for storage.

    The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, and other senior government officials were present to receive the eight caskets draped in the national flag.

    Meanwhile, the Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has announced that 3 days of national mourning has been declared.

    “There will be three days of national mourning starting Thursday, 7 August 2025. The government, through the Chief of Staff, has meanwhile directed that all flags must fly at half-mast until further notice,” Mr Ofosu added.

    At an emergency press briefing at the Presidency, Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah announced the death of these individuals and confirmed the incident.

    The officials together with the crew members were en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region for a national event at Obuasi.

    “The President and the government extend our condolences and sympathies to the families of our Comrades and the service men who died in service to the country,” Chief of Staff announced.
