Ghana Water Limited (GWL) in the Ashanti Region has reported significant technical difficulties at the Barekese Water Treatment Plant after a blast occurred in the facility’s high-lift area.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, December 11, the explosion damaged one of the three pumps currently in use, leading to low water pressure and reduced flow to parts of Kumasi and nearby communities.

GWL indicated that its engineers are working tirelessly to fix the faulty pump and return operations to normal. In the meantime, the technical team is rationing and regulating the available water to ensure consistent supply and maintain manageable pressure across the system.

“We recognise how essential reliable water access is and remain committed to resolving this challenge as swiftly as possible,” the statement assured.

Management apologised for the inconvenience caused and expressed appreciation to customers for their patience as repairs continue.
