Joseph Akasake Abaa, the District Chief Executive for the Bongo District, has died after a brief illness.
Family sources say he passed away at the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
The Bongo Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Alhaji Tahiru Aberinga, confirmed the news in an interview, describing the incident as shocking and unexpected.
Mr. Abaa was nominated by John Dramani Mahama and subsequently approved by the Bongo District Assembly in April 2025. Prior to his appointment, he served as Assembly Member for the Zorko-Goo-Awaah electoral area for three consecutive terms.
He also held key roles within the NDC, including Bongo Constituency Youth Organiser and later Constituency Secretary in 2022.
Beyond his political work, he was a storekeeper at Sirigu Integrated Senior High School and Zuarungu Senior High School.
His death marks a significant loss to the people of Bongo and the wider constituency he served over the years.
