Channel One TV has unveiled the top three winners of its “An Episode with Mama” promotion, a special Mother’s Day initiative designed to honour the sacrifices, resilience, and influence of mothers.
The winners were announced on Citi FM on Friday, May 8, by Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong-Abbey, Head of TV Production at Channel One TV.
Speaking on the selection process, Apiorkor explained that the winning stories were chosen for their powerful accounts of perseverance, sacrifice, and dedication demonstrated by the mothers featured in the submissions.
The “An Episode with Mama” campaign invited audiences to share emotional stories about their mothers and the impact they have had on their lives.
As part of the initiative, the 10 shortlisted participants were hosted at the Channel One TV premises, where they received gifts from sponsors GTP and Tekura.
Prize packages included GTP fabrics, gift hampers from Tekura, and all-expense-paid weekend stays at the African Regent Hotel.
The first prize was awarded to Kathryn Ewool for her touching tribute to her mother, Edith Ewool. Kathryn described her mother as a resilient woman who sacrificed a successful corporate career to singlehandedly raise five children, taking on several menial jobs to provide quality education and care for her family.
Second place went to Marian Kutsienyo, who shared the story of her mother, Agnes Kwegyir. She recounted how her mother, a midwife, struggled to support five children after the death of their father and arranged flexible school fee payments to ensure they completed their education.
Kwabena Owusu-Yeboah secured third place after narrating how his mother, Florence Safoah, worked tirelessly to support his education despite severe financial hardship following the collapse of the family business.
He recalled an emotional moment when his mother knelt before university authorities in tears in an effort to secure permission for him to sit his examinations.
