Mr Philip Atieku, CEO of Star Oil, in a speech read on behalf of Torgbui Xornametor, recounted the humble beginnings of Star Oil, which started as a small fuel retail business in Tapa-Abotoase. Torgbui Xornametor expressed gratitude to the community for their support over the years, stating that the project was a way of honouring the Company’s history, while securing a better future for the next generation.

He highlighted the dangers faced by children in the community, who had to cross the Volta Lake to access education emphasising that no child should have to risk their lives in pursuit of knowledge, which is why Star Oil took it upon itself to build the school. Beyond the school building, the Founder announced that Star Oil had provided 500 life jackets to protect children and community members, who may still need to cross the Lake.

Torgbui Xornametor reiterated that the Company’s support did not end with the commissioning of the school, stating that Star Oil was committed to working with local authorities, teachers and parents to ensure that the school remained a centre of excellence. He urged teachers to maintain high standards, parents to encourage their children to attend school regularly and students to study hard and dream big.

Madam Jean-Marie Formadi, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Biakoye constituency, said with Star Oil’s continued support and commitment to education, the community and the constituency was optimistic that other villages along the Lake would also benefit from improved access to quality education. She extended her gratitude to Star Oil for their remarkable social intervention. Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, the Oti Regional Minister, has praised the Founder of Star Oil for his unwavering commitment to developing the Oti Region.

The Minister noted that unlike some individuals who prioritised personal interests, the Star Oil founder had made its mission to improve the lives of people in the region. Mr Gyapong revealed that he had witnessed first-hand the Founder’s selflessness and generosity, particularly in his efforts to support the people of Oti Region. The Minister expressed his deepest gratitude to the founder for taking the region as his home and working tirelessly to bring about positive change.
