The Drobo campus of the St. Mary’s Holy Family Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC) in the Jaman South Municipality has admitted 260 fresh students to pursue various health programmes for the 2024/2025 academic year.

They comprise 158 Registered General Nursing and 102 Registered Midwifery students.

Addressing the 11th matriculation ceremony of the college at Drobo in the Bono Region, Miss Monica Nkrumah, the Principal explained that the college was finalising modalities for the introduction of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery programmes.

The programmes would equip students with the requisite knowledge, skills, and competencies to practice nursing and midwifery professions, she stated, saying the two programmes combined theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

She said the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana had already undertaken institutional assessment to facilitate accreditation process from the GTEC, saying that college was also working tirelessly for affiliation with the University of Cape Coast.

Ms Nkrumah said the introduction of the new programmes would put the college strategically to transition into a degree-awarding institution in line with the Ministry of Health’s plan to upgrade nursing training colleges in the country.

She enumerated several challenges, including poor roads, staff attrition, and inadequate infrastructure facing the college, however added institution commitment to tackle those challenges.

Ms Nkrumah urged the student to be disciplined, hardworking and dedicated themselves to their academic pursuit, and entreated the fresh students to also learn hard.

She expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Health, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, the Sunyani Catholic Diocese and all other stakeholders for their support and contribution towards the progressive growth and development of the college.
