A devastating fire outbreak in the late afternoon of Friday, January 10, 2024, caused destruction of three shops along the Ahoe-Stadium Road in Ho in the Volta Region.

The fire, fueled by the harmattan winds, destroyed the wooden shops, comprising an electrical shop, a plastic ware shop and another stocked with packs of water and drinks.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO), Mr Joy Ayim Ameyibor, Volta Regional Commander, Ghana National Fire Service, told the Ghana News Agency that the timely intervention by the Service prevented the fire from spreading.

He said the cause of the fire was currently under investigation.

Meanwhile, according to an eyewitness, the fire was caused by a domestic incident in a nearby wooden kitchen, where someone left on a coal fire unattended.

The incident caused a temporary halt in vehicular traffic along the stretch, with business owners distraught as they watched their investments worth thousands of Ghana Cedis reduce to ashes.
