The Felmer Foundation LBG, a local non-governmental organisation (NGO), has provided uniforms and footwear for basic school pupils in two communities within the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.

The donation formed part of the Foundation’s back to school initiative to provide educational materials for school children in deprived communities in the Municipality.

A total of 250 children from Ampatano M/A Basic School and Nyameyekrom Basic School benefited from the initiative.

Mr Prince Miezah Popley, the Foundation’s Secretary, speaking during the donation, at Ampatano community, said the move was part of the organisation’s strategies to enhance access to education for children in rural communities

He said: “As an organisation, we are passionate about the education of our children, so this gesture is to ensure that every child gets a uniform so that they can go to school and become important people in society.”

He continued: “You could see the joy and happiness on the faces of these young ones, and this means that when we give them the necessary support in terms of their educational needs, they will stay in school and learn to become successful people.”

Mr Popley stated that the Foundation would extend similar support to more schools to help improve students’ enrolment within the basic schools across the Municipality.

“The next project that we will embark on is to provide desks, chairs, and tables for the schools so that together we can make teaching and learning comfortable in the area,” he added.

He expressed gratitude to their donors for the support and appealed to other benevolent organisations to aid the Foundation to assist more schools with other teaching and learning materials.

Mr Francis Ackah, Headmaster of Ampatano M/A Basic School, thanked the donors for the kind gesture, and said it would go a long way to enhance education in the community.

“This is a deprived area and some of the children come to school with torn uniforms, while others even come barefooted, so getting a fresh uniform like this will give them the confidence to improve their academic performance,” he said.
