There have been recent calls for the removal of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta from office and the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry believes his sacking has been long overdue.
Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry, Emmanuel Cherry, believes the top job must be handed to a more competent person.
“The time is now; the president must rise for once and do the needful and not just him (Ken Ofori-Atta) alone others also must follow because enough is enough. There are so many good brains in the NPP why should it be only these people?”
Some Members of the Majority Caucus in Parliament had yesterday joined in the demand for his head and that of the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen.
In light of the country’s current economic predicament, which has compelled the government to seek support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) some Ghanaians, including opposition parties, have since mounted pressure on President Akufo-Addo to remove Mr Ofori-Atta from office.
Meanwhile the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has asked the New Patriotic Party Members of Parliament (MPs) demanding the removal of Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister to hold on till Ghana concludes negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The President says, terminating the appointment of Mr. Ofori-Atta will disrupt the programme.
At a meeting with the aggrieved MPs at the Jubilee House, Nana Akufo-Addo appealed for calm. The MPs were not happy with the appeal and were still insisting on the Finance Minister’s exit.
Nana Akufo-Addo has asked Ken Ofori-Atta to be given three more weeks to conclude the IMF negotiations.
