Intake members of the Ghana Military Academy (GMA), Regular Career Course (RCC) 43/Short Service Commission (SSC) 42 have handed over a Combat Pit to the GMA, at Teshie.

Aimed at enhancing the training of Cadets at the GMA, the unarmed Pit which is valued at about GHC200,000 includes an instructors stand, participants pit, and a spectators stand.

Speaking at a ceremony to commission the Pit, Brigadier General Charles Agyemang Prempeh, the Acting Commandant of the GMA, said the pit would facilitate the effective training and efficiency of Cadets.

He said the pit would also reduce the cost of training, noting that until the coming on stream of the facility, the GMA sent cadets to the Asutsuare Training Camp, where the 64 Infantry Regiment had such a facility for training.

He added that the arrangement placed a lot of challenges to the GMA, particularly on its limited fleet of vehicles which usually led to the cancellation of that aspect of training.

In expressing appreciation to the RCC 43/SCC 42 for the gesture, Brig Gen Agyemang Prempeh appealed to all intake groups of the GMA to extend support to their alma mater.

Handing over the facility to the GMA, Colonel BG Kumi-Woode, the Director of Religious Affairs who is also a member of the RCC 43/SCC 42 intake group said, they are hopeful that the Pit would facilitate the training of Cadets and ease the burden on the GMA.

The gesture, he said, formed part of activities marking their 20th anniversary of commissioning from the GMA.

Rear Admiral MM Tahiru, a former Commandant of the GMA who commissioned the project commended the RCC 43/SCC 42 intake group for their thoughtfulness.

He also urged other intake groups to consult and liaise with GMA to support and address the shortfalls faced by the GMA.

Present at the ceremony were, Brig Gen Daniel Frimpong, a former Deputy Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Some Senior Officers and Cadets of the GMA, and officers and men from the Physical Training School.
