A private consulting firm, MNG Consult, has partnered the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) to equip junior high schools (JHS) with the critical skills needed to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) successfully.

Under the partnership, teachers from MNG Consult will coach students on how to answer past questions in the four core subjects taught at the JHS.

To be titled: ‘No question unanswered’, the lessons are to be recorded and uploaded onto the digital platforms of the GCGL, including the Graphic news application, Graphic NewsPlus and Graphic Online, for students to access freely.

    Subjects covered

The past questions are between 2002 and 2019 and will cover Mathematics, English Language, Social Studies and General Science.

The initiative was due to kick off in the first week of July and run until August, within which 52 episodes will be aired.

Each episode is about 25 minutes long.

    Meeting

This came to light in Accra when the management of MNG Consult met the Editor of the Daily Graphic, Mr Kobby Asmah, and the Director of Marketing of the GCGL, Mr Franklin Sowa.

MNG Consult was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Yaw Boakye, and its Director of Business Development and Marketing, Mr Michael Gyang, who had signed an agreement to that effect a month ago.

    Willing partner

Mr Asmah said the GCGL was a “willing partner” in things that would bring accelerated development to the country.

As a result, he said, it decided to partner MNG Consult to deliver the project, after satisfying itself that the project was useful for the personal development of students and the nation as a whole.

He said the company was convinced that the initiative would help empower JHS students with knowledgeable skills relevant to the successful writing of the BECE.

He explained that while the GCGL supported the project, it would ensure that the information to be provided was authentic and had quality, in line with the company’s hallmark.

He said beyond the videos that would be uploaded onto the Graphic digital platforms, the GCGL would find innovative ways to get parents to supervise their children in the learning process.

Mr Asmah said one of the ways to do that was to publish questions in the Daily Graphic for students to answer them as a way of testing their learning skills.

    Explainer videos

For his part, Mr Sowa said the GCGL was hopeful that the partnership on the explainer videos on past questions for JHS students would be the beginning of more projects between the two firms in the future.

He said the GCGL would not hesitate to use its strong brand and wide reach to champion causes that would impact the country and humanity in general positively.

    Key tit-bits

Mr Gyang said the project was aimed at giving students key titbits on answering BECE questions.

He said studies had shown that some brilliant students failed examinations sometimes because they lacked question-answering skills.

“So the intention is to let students know what examiners expect of them in exams,” he said.

Mr Boakye added that MNG Consult was grateful for the partnership.

He said the GCGL was the biggest media house in the country and his outfit was convinced that the partnership would deliver the needed results for the benefit of the country.
