The queen of soulful melodies is back! Gyakie, one of Ghana’s finest vocalists and a global Afro-fusion sensation, is set to release her first single of 2025, titled “SANKOFA.” The anticipation is already building as she teased fans with a heartfelt video on social media, offering a glimpse of the song while enjoying a drive.

In the video, the “Forever” hitmaker is seen singing passionately, her head leaning out of the moving car’s window as the fresh air sweeps through her hair. The scene perfectly captures the essence of freedom, nostalgia, and deep emotion—suggesting that SANKOFA might be a song about reflection, love, or embracing one’s past.

    She captioned the post with:
“MY FIRST SINGLE OF THE YEAR “SANKOFA” IS UP NEXT!!! SEE U IN NO TIME. ???”

The word “SANKOFA” holds deep cultural significance in Ghanaian heritage. It originates from the Akan language and translates to “Go back and fetch it”, symbolizing the importance of learning from the past to build a better future. The Sankofa symbol, often depicted as a bird turning its head backward while moving forward, is a reminder that no matter how far we go in life, we should never forget where we came from.

Given Gyakie’s soulful and introspective style, this song could explore themes of revisiting past love, reconnecting with one’s roots, or embracing personal growth. Whether it’s a mellow ballad or an upbeat groove, fans can expect nothing but pure musical magic.

After a stellar 2024 that saw her perform on global stages, collaborate with top artists, and solidify her place in the music industry, Gyakie is kicking off 2025 with a fresh new sound. Could SANKOFA be the beginning of a new chapter for her? Could this single hint at an upcoming EP or album? Only time will tell.

Although the teaser only gave us a snippet of the song, Gyakie’s track record suggests we are in for a masterpiece. She has a way of blending Afrobeats, R&B, and highlife influences to create timeless music that resonates with people from all walks of life. From “Forever” to “Something”, she has consistently delivered, and there’s no doubt SANKOFA will be another gem.

While Gyakie hasn’t revealed the official release date, her words “SEE U IN NO TIME” suggest that fans won’t have to wait too long. Until then, the teaser video will keep everyone excited and guessing about what’s to come.

Will SANKOFA be a song about love, heartbreak, self-discovery, or nostalgia? No matter the direction, one thing is certain—when Gyakie sings, the world listens! ?✨
