Author and businessman, Kenneth Igiri, has justified the use of erotic language in his novel ‘Entangled’, positing that he used such language to make the novel as relatable as possible to his readers.
According to Mr Igiri, he wanted the readers of the novel, especially Christians who are struggling with their faith, to fit themselves in the shoes of the characters in the novel so that once they find themselves in similar situations, they would be able to speak to the challenge they are facing.
“You can actually classify the novel as 18+ and the truth is I wanted it to be as real as necessary, without crossing the lines. I wanted the novel to be [as]real to anyone of age who is reading it. Something they can relate with. Something they can say, this is what I am experiencing now. This is what I need to get free from. This is what I am feeling. This is what I have to deal with so that I can address it”, he explained.
He added that his diction in the novel was to help Christians face reality rather than live an illusion. Speaking on the Book Review Show with hostess, Mrs. Caroline Owusu Asamoah, Mr. Kenneth Igiri stated that most Christians fail to acknowledge the challenges that come their way and they end up getting tempted, and eventually, falling for that temptation.
“Our problem often is that we do not accept what we need to deal with and that leaves us in a situation where when we get exposed to the temptation, we find ourselves falling completely flat,” he said.
He used the case of Jesus’ disciple, Peter as an example, elaborating, “It’s like Peter. Jesus told him ‘before the cock crows, you will deny me three times’, and the Bible says that he began to swear and curse and say that ‘impossible, I can never do that’. But when the circumstances were created for him to fall, he actually did fall and Jesus knew that he was going to fall.”
Entangled is a 2017 novel that talks about a middle-aged Christian who finds himself in an undefined relationship with an unintended lover. His life is later complicated by the myriad of women in his past and present who have taken various positions in his heart, unknown to them and unclear to him. Based on a true story, Entangled explores the concept of sin and forgiveness, friendship and bravery, lust and love.
