‘Breaking Up With Mary Jane’ is how best I can help those I got into marijuana addiction – John Hermit

Once a marijuana addict, John Hermit seeks to make amends for the wrongs he has done through his latest book, ‘Breaking Up With Mary Jane’.  Breaking Up With Jane is a book that addresses a former drug addict’s struggles with marijuana and how he overcame that addiction.

During an interview with hostess of the Book Review Show, Mrs. Caroline Owusu Asamoah, John Hermit confessed that he used to recruit people within his inner circles into smoking marijuana, and feels that the least he can do for such people is to help them fight through the addiction the same way he did.

“When I used to smoke, I was introducing a lot of people into the habit; I was telling people about marijuana and basically inducting people into the habit of smoking. By God’s grace, when I quit smoking, I realized if I was the one helping people or if I was the one introducing people to the substance, and now I have realized it’s not the best choice, then it’s only right for me to also be able to tell them to quit and sort of provide them with the guideline or some help to quit,” he disclosed.

John added that, “I want to help people out there who are struggling with their addiction. I have a lot of friends who smoke. I know a lot of people who smoke. So if I have been able to quit, then I feel it’s only right for me to share my story with them just to inspire them to follow in my footstep.”

Detailing his journey to marijuana addiction, John Hermit revealed that he was already a ‘fan’ of alcohol and cigarettes, and that his first encounter with marijuana was in the university during a party at his hostel of residence.

“Prior to meeting Mary Jane, I was already smoking cigarette and drinking alcohol at the age of 15, when I was in secondary school. I had broken my virginity before going to secondary school [at the age of 14]. So smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, chatting girls, it came naturally to me. So I have been a bad boy before. I started smoking marijuana when I got to the university in my first year. There was a party in my hostel,” he narrated.

John added that, “Before the party, my friends would argue that marijuana was better than cigarette because marijuana was natural; marijuana is a God plant and it’s grown from the ground so it doesn’t have any chemicals like cigarette. So I was curious. I wanted to give it a try so I remember that night at the party, I gave it a try and I instantly fell in love with it. I preferred it better than the cigarette. I started smoking marijuana every now and then and before I knew it, I was addicted.”
