It was a night written in the stars for King Promise, as he ascended to the pinnacle of Ghanaian music by clinching the coveted Artiste of the Year award at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA). Held in Accra, the prestigious event brought together the biggest names in the music industry to celebrate talent, impact, and the cultural evolution of Ghanaian music — and this year, King Promise stood tallest.

In what many fans and critics are calling a long-overdue win, King Promise took the stage to thunderous applause as his name was announced. It was a moment steeped in emotion, triumph, and validation — not just for the artist, but for everyone who has followed his journey from the very beginning.

Shortly after receiving the award, the singer took to social media to share his thoughts in a heartfelt caption that accompanied a video of the winning moment. He wrote:

“THE CHOSEN ONE” … Artist Of The Year @ghmusicawards. I’ve always made it clear the music is my life and being able to represent my people and touch lives is a responsibility I don’t take for granted. Thank you Ghana 🇬🇭! I’m proud to be your Artiste of the Year.”

The post, which quickly went viral, captured the essence of what this win means — not just to King Promise, but to a generation of fans who have rooted for him from day one.

King Promise, born Gregory Bortey Newman, entered the music scene in 2016 and has since proven himself a powerhouse in the Ghanaian and African music landscape. With timeless hits like CCTV, Tokyo, Commando, and the viral anthem Terminator, he has consistently delivered music that resonates across borders and generations.

His 7-year journey has been marked by steady growth, sonic evolution, and a deep sense of purpose. Unlike many who rise fast and burn out, King Promise has taken the long road — building a career on quality, authenticity, and undeniable talent.

“7 years in the game filled with patience, resilience and consistency because I never took this position for granted,” he wrote. “Now let’s go even harder!”

This message encapsulates the spirit of his artistry — one that respects the grind and honors the responsibility that comes with influence.

In a true display of humility and sportsmanship, King Promise saluted his fellow nominees for helping elevate the competition and pushing him to do more. It’s a reminder that the Artiste of the Year award is never just about one person — it reflects the collective excellence of the Ghanaian music scene.

He also reserved special praise for his fans, calling them “the best fans in the world.”

“This is gonna serve as armor to even fight and push more for our music and culture as Ghanaians. I appreciate all of you… This moment I will cherish forever.”

King Promise’s win signifies more than personal glory — it’s a win for Afrobeats, highlife, and the new wave of Ghanaian sounds making global impact. As one of the key faces of Ghana’s modern music movement, he continues to bridge traditional influences with modern vibes, carving out a space that is uniquely his own.

With this recognition, King Promise joins an elite group of past winners and further cements his place in the annals of Ghanaian music history. But by his own admission, he’s not stopping here.

“I’m not cooling off,” he promised. “This is just the beginning.”

As the lights dim on another memorable TGMA ceremony, one thing is clear: King Promise is no longer just a rising star. He is the North Star.

Congratulations to Ghana’s new Artiste of the Year — the 5-Star general, King Promise.
