Mr Eric Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament of Ketu North, is set to host the maiden scholarship award ceremony to officially recognize and award the first batch of beneficiaries.

The highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 2 at the Municipal Assembly Hall in Dzodze. It will serve as a platform to unveil the scholarship scheme, introduce the first cohort of beneficiaries, outline the selection criteria, disclose the source of funding, and present a strategic plan for sustaining the initiative.

Speaking in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Agbana emphasised that education remained the cornerstone of progress, and the scholarship programme was a direct investment in the future of Ketu North’s youth.

“On my very first day in office as a Member of Parliament, I made a bold and unwavering commitment to invest in the future of our young people. Today, through this scholarship initiative, we are reaffirming our dedication to creating opportunities, breaking barriers, and building a brighter future for Ketu North,” he said.

The Ketu North Scholar Programme ‘Edem Agbana Scholarship Scheme’ was launched as a transformative initiative aimed at reducing the financial burden of tertiary education on bright but needy students within the constituency. The scholarship scheme attracted an overwhelming 947 applications from students pursuing various tertiary education programs across Ghana.

After a rigorous review process, the Board of Trustees selected 300 outstanding students from 35 tertiary institutions to benefit from the scheme. These selected students will receive financial aid covering between 60 to 100 per cent of their tuition fees. Mr. Agbana also assured that the scholarship programme was not a one-time initiative but a sustainable project that would continue to support students in the coming years.

“We are not just awarding scholarships; we are creating a system that ensures that brilliant but needy students in Ketu North have access to quality tertiary education without financial barriers,” he explained. He also called on philanthropists, corporate organizations, and well-meaning individuals to partner with the initiative to expand its reach and impact.

The scholarship award ceremony is expected to attract government officials, traditional leaders, educators, parents, students, and representatives from various educational institutions. The event will not only serve as a moment of celebration for the beneficiaries but will also reinforce the MP’s commitment to education, youth empowerment, and community development in Ketu North.
