The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) says apart from final year students who have practicals and other clinical examinations to undertake to complete their courses, it will not be mandatory for all final year students to report to campus when tertiary institutions reopen on June 15.
According to the university, it is sticking to its scheduled plan of ending the academic year with online activities.
It has urged all students, including the final year students to comply with the arrangements and adhere to the timelines as scheduled.
Per the government’s directive on the first phase of the easing of restrictions imposed since March 16, all tertiary institutions are to reopen on June 15, to enable final year students complete their programmes.
Though the KNUST says it was preparing to comply with the directive, technically, only the sixth year Clinical students of the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Pharm D as well as final year Midwifery and Medical Diagnostics students would all be required to report to school on June 15 to go through their clinicals and an abridged examination to enable them to complete their courses.
A statement from the university, outlining the comprehensive arrangements said before the roadmap was announced by the President, the university had already come up with a programme on how the academic year would end.
“All students, both continuing and in their final year, have up to June 30 to submit all assignments and project work online and examiners are required to process all the results for consideration by the department, faculty and college boards latest by July 15,” the statement indicated.
The statement added that, while all students were not required to be on campus when tertiary institutions reopened, “Students who have difficulty in accessing the online facilities at home have the option to relocate to campus from June 15 to June 30, having made an arrangement with their Heads of Department.”
Clinicals
All sixth-year Clinical students of the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Pharm D as well as final year Midwifery and Medical Diagnostics students would all be required to report to school on June 15 to go through their clinicals and an abridged examination to enable them to complete their courses.
International Students
The university is also making arrangements to allow international students in the fifth and sixth years at the School of Medicine and Dentistry and sixth year in the Veterinary Medicine, Pharm D as well as final year Midwifery and Medical Diagnostics to return for their clinical and practicals when school resumes on June 15.
However, those who would not be able to return due to the travel restrictions will have their examinations postponed until an appropriate time.
