Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has monitored the pilot of the Ghana Pay Mobile Money (Momo) payment registration in Accra to ensure a transparent social protection system.

The GhanaPay is a MoMo service provided by universal banks, rural banks, and savings and loan companies to individuals and businesses.

It is the payment mechanism that is registering the beneficiaries to receive their cash grant through mobile money without transactional fees.

It is like any MoMo service but with additional banking services.

Dr Lartey said the Ministry embarked on a comprehensive reassessment of LEAP to ensure that the right households, those mostly in need, were captured in the programme.

She said the Ghana National Household Registry was also revalidating household data to eliminate duplication, address inclusion and exclusion errors, and ensure resources were directed where they were most needed.

Those exercises, she said, were critical to strengthening the integrity and impact of the programme.

The Minister encouraged beneficiaries to embrace the opportunity with care, protect their mobile PINs, and report any irregularities.

Dr Zenator Agyemang-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, expressed excitement for the exercise because of the continuous complaints from beneficiaries.

Dr Agyemang-Rawlings urged beneficiaries to inform community members who fitted the criteria but were unaware about the programme to enroll.
