The nomination of Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Anloga District in the Volta Region has sparked a range of reactions from residents and locals within the district.

In an interaction by the Ghana News Agency with traders at the Anloga Market on Thursday afternoon, many expressed their excitement over the appointment of a woman to lead the district. Several of the traders voiced hope that Kpedor, who has been selected to serve in a leadership capacity, would champion the cause of women’s empowerment, a critical issue in the district, where trading is a major economic activity.

Sister Adzo, a prominent fishmonger at the market, expressed her optimism, saying, “We are happy that a woman has been selected to lead us. We believe she will prioritise the welfare of we, the fishmongers and traders in the district.”

Another trader shared similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of female leadership, saying, “It is the era of women in leadership. Madam Sandra is the first female DCE, just as we have a first female Vice President. We will support her to ensure she delivers her best for us.” Commercial drivers in the district also expressed their support for Sandra’s nomination, acknowledging the potential for positive change under her leadership.

While the majority of residents have shown public endorsement, there remains a portion of the community with mixed views on the nomination. These dissenting voices, though not as prominent, suggest that there are concerns regarding the direction of leadership under the new appointee, claiming the district needs someone, who has experience in public administration and have knowledge in local governance.

The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs released the list of 72 nominees for Municipal and District Chief Executives on Wednesday, awaiting approval from their respective Assembly members
