The Eastern Nzema Traditional Council has elected Nana Bonya Kofi VI, Senior Divisional Chief of Basake, as the Acting President of the Council.
A Standing Committee of the Council, in a press release to the Ghana News Agency signed by four Senior Divisional Chiefs, said the decision was taken in view of the “bitter feuding that has occurred between Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III and his family over a year or so.”
The release said it was also necessitated by the resultant violence that had “marred the peace and security within the Council,” and “the socio-eco-political consequences within the Eastern Nzema as a whole, and the inability to respond effectively or positively to investment demands.”
It said it took into consideration the Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (ACT 759), paragraph 15, clauses 1,2, and 3, in reaching that decision and expressed the hope that the move would restore normalcy in the Council and ensured that peace prevailed in the area for rapid growth.
The release appealed to the authorities to ensure the return of the Registrar for the traditional council following the election of an Acting President to provide administrative support to the “interim management to succeed in this rebuilding efforts”.
