Mr John Okine Yamoah, the Acting Managing Director of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), has called for the support of all stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted power supply for sustainable socio-economic development.

Mr Yamoah, who assumed office early this month, made the call when he engaged journalists in Tamale on the operations of the company. He acknowledged the contributions of various stakeholders in keeping the company running despite existing challenges.

Mr Yamoah touched on key issues hindering effective power supply, including low revenue mobilisation, high distribution losses and low customer satisfaction.

He said last year, the Northern Area lost about 45.9 per cent of the power it sent out every month to theft, adding that most of the cases were recorded in Tamale and Yendi.

Mr Yamoah outlined four strategic steps that NEDCo intended to take to tackle the power issues, and these included improved revenue collection and efficiency, enhanced operational efficiency to reduce losses and wastage, elevate customer experience and satisfaction, and boost staff morale for productivity.

He said “Achieving these goals will require the commitment and support of everyone. We need ideas, constructive criticism, energy, and dedication to transform NEDCo into an organisation of excellence in the power distribution sector”.

He was grateful for the opportunity to lead the company, saying “I am excited about the future of NEDCo and the role we will play in empowering the growth and development of our communities”.

Mr Abdul-Majeed Yakubu, the Northern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, pledge the Association’s support for NEDCo activities and appealed to the company to ensure efficient power supply, especially during the Ramadan and dry season.
