A Kumasi High Court has sentenced 36-year-old Dominic Afriyie, also known as “GH,” to 120 years in prison for armed robbery and a life imprisonment term for the murder of a pharmacist and building contractor, Michael Dela Agbo Klu.

The ruling, delivered on Thursday, May 15, 2025, by Justice Abdul Razak, followed a trial in which the accused was found guilty on two counts of robbery and one count of murder.

A seven-member jury unanimously upheld the charges after evaluating evidence presented during the proceedings.

According to a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Command and signed by DSP Godwin Ahianyo, the incident occurred on November 20, 2021, at Atasemanso, a suburb of Kumasi.

Armed with a firearm, the convict invaded the home of Mr. Klu and his family, where he made away with two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH¢1,500 in cash.

Tragically, during the robbery, Mr. Klu, aged 43, was shot and killed.

Following the fatal attack, police launched an extensive investigation.

On December 30, 2021, intelligence was received about a planned robbery in the same area and in response, officers conducted a surveillance operation that led to the arrest of Afriyie and three accomplices on December 31, 2021, at approximately 0220 hours.

They were intercepted in a Toyota Corolla with registration number AS 5970-20.

A search of the vehicle uncovered two pistols and two single-barreled shotguns. Subsequent investigations established that Dominic Afriyie had acted alone in the earlier robbery and murder of Mr. Klu.

Despite pleading not guilty to all charges, the court found him culpable based on compelling evidence.

He was accordingly sentenced to 120 years’ imprisonment for robbery and life imprisonment for murder.
