Residents in several communities across Kumasi are facing difficulties accessing water due to an ongoing shortage that has persisted for weeks.
For the past two weeks, households in areas such as Asokwa, Amakom, Afful Nkwanta, Atonsu, Dichemso and Kwadaso have experienced dry taps, forcing many to depend on underground water sources within their communities.
The regional office of Ghana Water Limited has attributed the situation to unstable power supply affecting its treatment plants.
According to the utility provider, inconsistent electricity supply to the Barekese and Owabi treatment plants, as well as the Achiase booster station, has disrupted water production and distribution across the metropolis.
Officials explained that the low voltage levels currently being supplied to these facilities are insufficient to sustain normal water treatment and supply operations to households.
